How to reverse a GIF

  1. Load your GIF. Drop it on the page, paste it, or choose a file.
  2. Pick a direction. Reverse plays it backwards; Boomerang and Rewind join both directions into one loop.
  3. Trim it (optional). Drag the blue handles under the preview to keep only the part you want.
  4. Check the result. The reversed version plays next to the original, so you can compare before you save.
  5. Create and download. Pick a speed, a loop setting and an output width, then press Create reversed GIF.

Reverse, boomerang and rewind

Play a GIF backwards

Reverse keeps every frame and its timing, and plays them from last to first. A pour flows back into the glass, a jump lands before it takes off.

Make a boomerang GIF

Boomerang plays the clip forward and then backward. The first and last frames are not repeated at the turn, so the loop has no stutter. Add a short pause at the turn for a more dramatic bounce.

Rewind effect

Rewind starts at the end, runs backwards to the beginning, then plays forward again. It works well for "wait, watch that again" moments.

Trim before you reverse

Most GIFs have a few frames you don't need, such as a slow start or an ending that cuts off. Drag the handles on the timeline, or type the first and last frame, and only that part is reversed. A shorter range also makes the file smaller.

Play once or loop forever

A reversed GIF loops forever by default, like most GIFs. Choose Play once if it should stop on its final frame, for example in an email or a slide, where an endless loop can be distracting.

What people use it for

  • Funny "undo" moments: spills that un-spill, falls that bounce back up
  • Boomerang-style loops from short clips, without a phone app
  • Seamless loops from GIFs that jump at the end
  • Rewinding a key moment in a game or sports clip
  • Slowing down or speeding up a reversed clip for reactions

Questions

Is it free?

Yes. Reversing GIFs is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No. The GIF is split into frames, reordered and rebuilt inside your browser. The file never leaves your device.

What is the difference between reverse and boomerang?

Reverse plays the frames from last to first. Boomerang plays them forward and then backward, so the clip goes there and back in one loop.

Will the reversed GIF keep the original speed?

Yes. Each frame keeps its own delay at 1× speed. Use the speed slider to make it faster or slower.

Will the quality change?

The GIF is re-encoded with up to 256 colors per frame, the same limit every GIF has. Colors stay close to the original. A boomerang has almost twice as many frames, so its file is larger.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit, but very long or very large GIFs need more memory. Large GIFs are scaled to 800 pixels wide while you work. Pick a smaller output width to make the final file lighter.

Can I reverse a video or an MP4?

Not yet. This tool works with animated GIF files.

I want to find where a GIF came from. Is this a reverse GIF search?

No. This tool plays a GIF backwards. To find the source of a GIF, take a screenshot of one frame and search it with a reverse image search such as Google Lens or Bing Visual Search.
